Preface:

Student attendance is a critical factor in evaluating overall academic performance, as it reflects a student’s engagement throughout the entire program up to the final semester. Regular attendance is essential for academic achievement, personal development, and readiness for professional life. By consistently attending classes, students gain access to lectures, discussions, and various learning experiences, which contribute significantly to their academic success and final outcomes

Objective:

The basic aim and objective of the Attendance Policy is to ensure to promote student engagement, support academic achievement, and ensure compliance with institutional standards.

Policy Statement:

(This policy reflects the guidelines and directives set forth by HEC)

  1. 75% Attendance in classes and laboratory is mandatory. Students are expected to attend all classes, laboratories, tutorials, or other class meetings officially designed for a particular course. Students are expected to complete all quizzes, assignments and exams. Each three-credit hour course will have 48 contact hours (3 hours/ week x 16 teaching weeks = 48 credit hours) in a semester. Every student of the University is required to accomplish 75% of the attendance in both lab and theory classes respectively. A student who fails to meet the minimum requirements of attendance in any course will not be allowed to appear in the End Semester Final Examination for that component of the course.
  2. In courses with Lab, every student studying such course is required to maintain at least 75% of the attendance in lab and 75% in class room lectures, separately. A student who fails to meet the minimum requirements of attendance, either in Lab or in classroom lectures shall not be allowed to appear in the End Semester final examination for that course. Attendance in academic events, such as seminar, lab work, workshop or a skills development program, may be adjusted to cover the shortage in a given course. It is the responsibility of students to constantly monitor and ensure their attendance level.
  3. If a student fails to attend any lecture (without any authorization) during the first four weeks of the commencement of the semester as per the announced schedule, his/her semester registration shall stand cancelled automatically without any notice
  4. In case of late registration/late admission student will be personally responsible for his/her absentees and must fulfil HEC criterion of 75% attendance (The missed classes before late registration/late admission will be counted as absentees)
  5. All leaves, contingencies, religious obligations, medical emergencies and bereavement cases must be covered in 25% absentee limit and would not be condoned at any level to ensure HEC attendance criteria.

Scope:

The Policy applies to every student, enrolled in the academic program offered by the Sohail University
